The aim of the course is for delegates to understand the role of a leader, including the range of leadership styles, which can be employed, depending on the situation or the staff member. It also aims to cover practical skills in performance managing staff. Various skill models are covered, all of them practical and relevant to the workplace. Delegates are given ample opportunities to practice the models in the ‘safe’ training environment and receive constructive feedback from colleagues and trainer.
Variety of training methods are used on the course, including group discussion, self-diagnostic questionnaire, syndicate work, demonstrations and ‘skill practice.’
After the course, you will be able to:
Describe action-centred leadership, and define the activities involved of an effective leader
Know the pitfalls of being too task, team or individually focused
Identify whether they are TASK or PROCESS driven as managers, and therefore adjust their style accordingly
Understand The S.M.A.R.T pneumonic
S.MA.R.T performance / conduct based objectives for staff
Understand the range of standards that can be applied in the workplace
Know what Motivational and Formative feedback are
Give effective feedback to staff on performance / conduct
Understand the dos and don'ts of effective feedback
Be assertive with others to encourage staff to ‘give of their best’
Understand how to prepare for a performance counselling interview
Undertake an effective performance counselling interview
Define the purpose of the performance counselling interview in performance management
Delegates will also set an action plan as a result of the programme
This course will particularly benefit all members, especially those new to the role
